Susan Sabaa is a Child Protection specialist who has worked for the past twenty-two years on child protection and child welfare in Ghana. For close to 10 years (1999-2007) she was the national coordinator of the Ghana NGO Coalition on the rights of the child where she coordinated programs, evaluation and advocacy efforts on children’s issues across different sectors (education, health, labour, protection, welfare and justice). She co-founded the Child Research and Resource Centre (CRRECENT) where she leads a team of specialists on child-centred research, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods. Among the child protection programmes run by her organisation are Juvenile Offender Re-integration into Society, Child and Youth Policy Advocacy Forum, Girls’ Empowerment and Leadership, End Child Marriage Campaign.

She has been actively involved in various multi-sectoral committees at national level and in the drafting of frameworks like the Child and Family Welfare Policy and the Justice for Children Policy. On the international scene, Susan has engaged in various consultative meetings. She represented Civil Society Organisations and NGOs at the 2nd Pan-African Forum on Children, Mid Term Review Process in Cairo, Egypt in 2007. In 2005, she represented West African NGO Coalitions in Peru, South America to review the 16 years of existence of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Susan has a MA in Child and Youth Care and Development, University of Victoria, Canada; a BA (English and French) from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and a DipEd (Education), University of Cape Coast, Ghana

She also has completed short courses in Ghent –Antwerp (Belgium)-Certification in Interdisciplinary Course in Children’s Rights- Children’s Rights in a Globalised World: From Principles to Practice. Gestalt Institute of Cleveland- Certification in Professional training in Organisation and Systems
