Ms. Kathryn Leslie is a Child Protection Specialist at the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence against Children since 2014. Her geographic area of responsibility for the mandate is the African region as well as supporting implementation, follow-up and review of the SDG violence-related targets at global level with partners. Before her post to this office, she served as a Child Protection Specialist with UNICEF in Tanzania for five years leading the development and implementation of the Government’s first National Plan of Action to End Violence against Children in response to the 2009 Violence against Children Survey (VACS). She previously worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs at Irish Aid on Policy Coherence for Development issues. Prior to that, she was with civil society organizations SERVE (in Ireland and Thailand) and World Vision (in Bosnia and Herzegovina) working on citizenship and human rights, social exclusion and trafficking. Kathryn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Government and Public Policy from the University College of Cork (UCC) and a Master of Arts in Peace and Development Studies from the University of Limerick (UL), Ireland.
